Create abstract art using dish soap

How To Create Abstract Art Using Dish Soap.

To get started, gather your supplies. You'll need:
Canvas
Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush
Dish Soap
Spray Paint
Sink/ Bathtub/ Garden Hose

Step 1:
To get started, you'll need to paint the front of your canvas. I used acrylic paint, but anything that covers canvas will work. I also faded mine from gold to off-white. It's not necessary, but I like the look of the gradient tones when finished :)

Step 2:
Once your painted canvas dries, open the dish soap and squeeze it onto your canvas to make a pattern. I used Dawn dish soap, but I believe any brand will work!

You can also tilt the canvas to cause the dish soap to drip, smear it with your finger, drip it onto the canvas, etc. You design doesn't have to be perfect. That's the beauty of abstract art; it's not supposed to be perfect.

Step 3:
Move your canvas to a well-ventilated area, taking care not to mess up the design you created with the dish soap. Cover the surface under the canvas, shake your spray paint, and spray away! You'll want to cover the entire canvas, including the sides, with the spray paint. The spray paint will sort of slide off of the dish soap, and depending on the amount you used, the dish soap may spread. This is fine. It adds texture.

Step 4:
Wait 10-15 minutes for the spray paint to dry.

Step 5:
Carefully take your canvas to the sink, bathtub, garden hose, etc., and run it under water. Putting the water on full blast will likely remove some of the spray paint from the canvas, so I'd recommend a slower stream. Run the entire canvas under the faucet until all dish soap has been removed.

And that's it! Once your project dries, it's ready to hang.
Cool, huh?

Behind The Name

Boy, I Tell Ya
I've known for a while I wanted to start a blog, but had trouble coming up with a name for it. I was talking it over with my husband (that's him in the picture) when he said, "Boy, I tell ya. This ain't easy." Or something along those lines. It's a phrase he's used on countless occasions. Those four words capture his frustration, his disbelief, and his myriad other emotions. I knew right then that I would use that simple phrase as a title for my blog.

Because boy, I tell ya, this Mom thing is hard work!
